“Please provide me with the snapshot population of all NZ police cells on
the final day of each quarter, as far back as records permit. In other
words, please provide me with the number of people in all NZ police cells
facilities on March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31 of each
year, as far back as records permit.”

 

In order to provide the information for this request, a manual search of
each day’s custody notes would need to be undertaken in each Police
District. For this reason, your request is declined under section 18(f) as
the information requested cannot be made available without substantial
collation or research.

 

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are not satisfied
with the way I have responded to your request.

Request for Information

I refer toyour request received on 17 May 2019 under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) for:

information relating to the total number of arrests made per annum on all
school grounds as far as records permit, broken down by ethnicity and
gender of the arrested person.

Policeproduce statistics on proceedings against offenders and not arrests.
Aproceeding counts each separate occasion when Police deal with an alleged
offender for one or more offences.

The table below shows the number of proceedings against offenders located
within educational Institutions broken down by ethnicity and gender for
the period from July 2014 to December 2018. These statistics are
publically available on [1]policedata.nz.
