I refer to your official information request dated 01 April 2019.

We had broken down your request into 3 parts (as following):

 1. Please provide me with the total number of people under the age of 18
being arrested, broken down by year as far back as records permit.
Please break this down by ethnicity and sentencing outcome. Please
break this down by age group as well, if possible.

 

 2. Please provide me with the total number of people under the age of 18
being processed through the adult justice system, broken down by year
as far back as records permit. Please break this down by ethnicity and
sentencing outcome. Please break this down by age group as well, if
possible.

 

 3. Please provide me with the number of people under the age of 18
sentenced to life imprisonment or preventive detention, broken down by
year as far back as records permit. Please break this down by
ethnicity. Please break this down by age group as well, if possible.

 

We have transferred part of your request to New Zealand Police. Part of
the information to which your request relates in Part 1: “total number of
people under the age of 18 being arrested, broken down by year as far back
as records permit “ is not held by us but is believed to be held by New
Zealand Police. In these circumstances, we are required by section 14 of
the OIA to transfer this section of your request.

You will hear further from New Zealand Police concerning that part of your
request.

In regards to Parts 2 and 3 of your request we acknowledge receipt of your
request for information under the Official Information Act.

You can expect a response to your request on or before 06 May 2019.
