Dear Mr Mendham,

 

Thank you for your email of the 17th of August inquiring if former NZ
government Ministers receive NZ passports free for life and asking for the
statutes, legislation and/or policies if this was the case.

As per Sections 3 and 8 of the Passport (Fees) Regulations 1996 (the
Regulations), everyone applying for a New Zealand passport must pay the
fees as set out in the Regulations. As such, neither former or current New
Zealand Government Ministers receive New Zealand Passports without paying
the requisite fee.
