FURTHER INFORMATION TO PROVIDE CONTEXT TO THE FYI LGOIMA REQUEST:
The Living Wage is currently $20.55 per hour. From 1 September 2019 the
rate for 2019 will be $21.15.
The recent LOGIMA request was whether any staff at WRC are paid less than
$21.15 per hour, and if so how many. No permanent or fixed term staff are
paid less than $21.15. However there are 13 casual staff paid less than
that figure.
Of the 13, eight are paid above the current living wage of $20.55 and a
further 4 are paid $20.50 (5c less than the current living wage). One is
paid $18.50.
For context, most of these casuals are students employed during the
2018/19 summer student programme that have been retained after the summer
for work on an on-call casual basis.
The summer student rates are based on rates benchmarked with other
councils and compare favourably against other student employers.
Given the pending change in the Living Wage, employment rates for casual
staff have been reviewed.
