I refer to your request of 11 June 2021 for the following information:

 

I am aware of the New Zealand Police practice of using interpol notices
for harassment purposes, e.g. intentionally putting false and misleading
information for obstructing citizen's movements and causing useless
interrogations on borders. (The practice commonly seen within small
pseudo-democracy countries)

May I kindly ask for the documents/policies regulating the use of Interpol
notices and alerts (e.g. Interpol manual?).

Additionally, I am looking for the list of persons/positions having an
access to use them (Interpol notices/alerts) and procedures/policies in
place preventing misuse of them in a harassment way if it is not a part of
the above documents.

 

I have been asked to advise you that Police requires an extension of time
in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of the
Official Information Act (OIA). Specifically, 15A(1)(b), consultations
necessary to make a decision on the request are such that a proper
response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time
limit.

 

Police require until 16 July 2021 to provide a substantive response to
your request.

 

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to
an Ombudsman about this extension.

Thank you for your email of 8 July 2021. I can confirm that a response to your original request (IR-01-21-18487) was sent to you this morning.

The response did not address the additional question you referred to Police yesterday: "I am fine with the delay but would like to request to add a copy of the consultation correspondence to the final release, specifically interested in the party names to consult and sections of the released information to be consulted."

Could you please confirm whether you still require a response to the above question. If so, it will need to be logged as a new request.
