One-off visa for those eligible for PR
Georgina Lamb made this Official Information request to Kris Faafoi
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Georgina Lamb to read recent responses and update the status.
From: Georgina Lamb
Dear Kris Faafoi,
We have been eligible for permanent residency for 18 months and waiting for INZ to process our Talent (Accredited Employer) Visa, which only requires we meet a basic requirement of having worked for an AE for 2 years (alongside the usual health and character requirements). We’ve been lumped in the queue with all of the EOI applicants who have very complex and uncertain applications, which means that we are long overdue PR.
While this new one-off visa is good for many, it just sets us back another 2 years. Will those that are already eligible for PR be able to gain PR through this new visa? If not, please can you tell me whether any resource will be allocated to the Talent visa queue while the new one-off visa applications are being processed?
Yours faithfully,
Georgina Lamb

Kia ora,
On behalf of Hon Kris Faafoi, thank you for your email.
While the Minister considers all correspondence to be important, and all
messages are carefully read and considered, it is not always possible to
personally reply to all emails. As such, the following guidelines apply:
· Invitations and meeting requests will be processed as soon as
possible and a staff member will be in contact with you in due course
· All media queries will be responded to by a staff member
· Requests for official information will be managed in accordance
with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, which may
include transfer to a more relevant Minister or agency
· If your email falls outside of the Minister’s portfolio
responsibilities, expresses a personal view, or is copied to multiple
Members of Parliament, then your opinion will be noted and your
correspondence may be transferred to another office, or there may be no
further response to you
Thank you for the taking the time to write.
Nga mihi,

From: Immigration
Dear Georgina
Thank you for your email to Hon Kris Faafoi. The 2021 Resident Visa is available to most work-related visa holders and their immediate family members.
To be eligible, the principal applicant must have been in New Zealand on 29 September 2021 and must hold or have applied for (and subsequently be granted) one of the eligible work visas. They must also meet one of the following criteria:
•lived in New Zealand for three or more years, or
•earn above the median wage ($27 per hour or more), or
•work in a role on the scarce list
The visa will also be available for those who enter New Zealand as critical workers, and their families, for roles six months or longer until 31 July 2022.
To be eligible, visa holders also need to meet some other criteria. The full list of criteria and an eligibility checker is available on Immigration New Zealand’s website.
Immigration New Zealand will be prioritising the processing of applications under the one-off residence pathway to ensure the vast majority of them are processed within a year but SMC applications will continue to be processed until applications open. Both the criteria and the assessment process for this one-off residence process will be simpler than the current Skilled Migrant Category process. Eligibility criteria are simpler and there are fewer requirements for individuals to meet as INZ will use information they already have about the applicant, such as their visa status, the time spent in New Zealand and their current employment. Standard skilled residence applications require more complex applications and assessments.
