Failure of your vehicle registration expiry reminders
Guy made this Official Information request to New Zealand Transport Agency
New Zealand Transport Agency did not have the information requested.
From: Guy
Dear New Zealand Transport Agency,
I understand you provide reminders, by mail, that a vehicle registration is due to expire.
One can then go online to renew.
Recently (December 2021) you sent a reminders after registrations had expired causing people that relied on your service to get tickets.
I would like to know:
* What were the reasons that reminders were sent late
* For the past 5 years please provide a breakdown, by month, of the number of reminders sent each month and how many were late (sent after the registration had expired)
Yours faithfully,
Guy

Dear Guy
Are you able to please confirm if you are referring to the Renewal of
Motor Vehicle Licence (MR1) reminding people of their upcoming rego
expiry?
In order to further investigate the issue regarding you not receiving your
reminder on time, are you comfortable providing the plate number of your
vehicle for which you received a late reminder for? We can use the plate
number to check the exact file that plate number is in to find out what
has happened with the MR1 notice.

Dear Official Correspondence,
Yes, I am referring to Renewal of
Motor Vehicle Licence (MR1) reminding people of their upcoming rego
expiry.
Why remind people if their rego has expired?
I want to know why this happened. What was the fault. Importantly how many people got expensive tickets by relying on your software and processes; now and in the past.
How often this happens.
The plate number in this instance was NCP883.
Thank you
Yours sincerely,
Guy
