Subject: Official Information request - Number of fully vaccinated people
aged 18-21 by DHB of residence
Dear Ministry of Health
I would like the number of people who were aged 18-21 as a 1 Jan 2022
(i.e. born in the years 2000 - 2003 inclusive) who were fully vaccinated
(had received two doses of any vaccine passport-eligible COVID-19
vaccine)
before 1 Feb 2022 by their DHB of residence.
Thank you
Emily

Dear OIA Requests
My intent was to invite you to make any additional adjustments to the numbers that I provided in my previous reply using any additional information you might have easily 'on hand', while communicating that I am not interested in paying for additional data (as might have been suggested by your earlier email - I can no longer recall). My apologies if this 'on hand' request caused you some confusion. My intent was to help us confirm the best data available at the time that did not incur a significant investment of additional time or expense.
As the most recent figures I was able to source from your website at the time were of the number of 20-24 year olds who were fully vaccinated as at 1 Dec 2021, I have used these, which I sent back to you for checking. See below.
Number and percentage of population aged 20-24 who were fully vaccinated by 1 Dec 2021, out of the Statistics NZ best estimate of the full population*
Northland - 5,510 (59%)
Auckland - 98,357 (83%)
Waikato - 24,145 (76%)
Bay of Plenty - 9,065 (50%)
Gisbourne - 1,824 (65%)
Hawkes Bay - 6,302 (64%)
Taranaki - 4,196 (66%)
Manawatu-Wanganui - 11,121 (67%)
Wellington - 29,935 (71%)
Nelson/Marlborough/Tasman - 5,032 (63%)
West Coast - 852 (61%)
Canterbury - 33,044 (77%)
Otago/Southland - 20,855 (84%)
Total - 250,427 (75%)
*Note that some regions have been mapped to correspond with the Statistics NZ population estimates using the most logical groupings available (e.g. Auckland, Counties Manukau, and Waitemata MoH data was mapped to the Statistics NZ "Auckland"). I also did not wish to use the denominator of the subset of the 20-24 population who have recently interacted with the health system, as is sometimes published elsewhere.... percentages of more than 100% do not make much sense to me!
Thanks again for your figures, which I used above. I appreciate your time.
Emily
