Misclassification of the Asia-Pacific region as the 'Indo-Pacific'
Ali Anwar made this Official Information request to NZ On Air
Response to this request is long overdue. By law NZ On Air should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Ali Anwar
Dear NZ On Air,
In recent years I have noticed media funded from your organization has tended to use the American propaganda term, 'Indo-Pacific', in place of the proper term for the Asia-Pacific region, 'Asia-Pacific', in an attempt to deny the rights of the highly populous Asian nations in the Asia-Pacific to assert their sovereignty against the dictates of a few hundred million American useless eaters.
I am requesting all NZ On Air documents and communications that mention the propaganda term 'Indo-Pacific' or 'Indo Pacific'.
Regards,
Ali

Dear NZOA Info,
I have primarily noticed the misuse of the term 'Indo-Pacific' in place of 'Asia-Pacific' in media you fund in the last five years, so consider the appropriate time period to be 2015-now.
I am aware that NZ On Air officially disavows involvement in the editorial content of media it chooses to fund. I am also aware that NZ On Air does require those receiving funding to agree to various terms, and that NZ On Air engages in decision-making about what media it chooses to fund.
As such, documents and communications that mention the term 'Indo-Pacific' or 'Indo Pacific' should be returned.
Yours sincerely,
Ali Anwar

Dear NZOA Info,
Your pernicious influence over funding recipients is obviously not primarily conducted though publicly accessible documents, which I am quite capable of searching myself.
This request should explicitly include "emails and documents" exchanged between NZ On Air and "third parties."
Yours sincerely,
Ali Anwar

"Indo-Pacific" and "Asia-Pacific" are different terms that have different meanings. They are distinct from each other.
"Indo-Pacific" refers to the landmasses surrounding the Indian Ocean, Indonesia and the Pacific Ocean. Indo-Pacific has existed as a term in English usage since the mid-1930s and was German in origin, not American.
"Asia-Pacific" refers to the part of Asia which lies in the Pacific Ocean. This term is broader, less specific, and encompasses a larger amount of geographic locations than "Indo-Pacific". Asia-Pacific has existed as a term in English usage since the late-1980s.
