Checking for relevant Convictions - Domestic Violence
K Logan made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was successful.
From: K Logan
Dear New Zealand Police,
please could you find me all relevant information the Police have on the procedure for checking the previous convictions of someone charged with Domestic Violence related charges when the person charged is not a Resident or Citizen of New Zealand. (ie a Visitor or on a Temporary Work Visa). Is there anything that states that the Police should request the Defendant's previous relevant history from their country of origin or anything that specifically states that they should not.
I am interested to know why it is that someone should be charged and prosecuted for a First Offence in Domestic Violence when in fact they have a criminal history of this in the UK.
I live in New Zealand permanently and am happy to provide proof of address is required,
kind regards and many thanks in advance for your help with this,
K Logan

Dear Sir/Madam
I need to establish that you are a NZ citizen, a person who is a permanent resident of NZ, or is in NZ. Can you please provide me something to meet this. If you don't wish to give your personal details then perhaps a phone number that I can ring you on to satisfy me that you're in NZ? This is to meet the requirements of Section 12 of the Official Information Act.
Thanks
