Kia ora Carren

Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand have asked if one of the local Auckland
districts can assist you with your OIA request of 21 July.

This was: “I am conducting a study and would like to know the numbers of
people with mental illness diagnoses in the West Auckland community. If
possible, how many of these have had an in-patient stay as well.”

We think we can help you with service use data but not the diagnoses
question. We could possibly help with local district level data on the
number of people engaging with specialist mental health services. But we
would need to clarify what parts of West Auckland you seek information on.
Data is held at district level and the West Auckland could conceivably be
the two districts of Waitemata and the western suburbs of Auckland such as
Te Atatu and Blockhouse Bay.

The geographic areas that the two districts are responsible for can be
seen in the maps here
[1]https://hub.arcgis.com/datasets/bab0ff43...

Would you consider amending your request to ask for Te Whatu Ora Waitemata
data? And to ask for the number of inpatients recorded as admitted to
publicly funded  mental health and addiction services in that district for
the most recent available year (2019/20)? Or for a time series leading up
the that? See for example this data set giving data about mental health
and addiction service use from 2013/14 to 2021/22 :
[2]https://tewhatuora.shinyapps.io/mental-h...

We’d be happy to agree to accepting a request for inpatient data for the
1/07/2021 – 30/06/2022 financial year data for the Waitemata and Auckland
districts.

Look forward to hearing back what how you would want to clarify this
request. Or if the information we have supplied links to has satisfied
your request.

Ngā mihi,

Mark

Dear Mark Fenwick (ADHB),

Thank you for your response. This is very useful information.
I think the proposed size of the two DHB areas are too large to be of further use to me at this stage.
I believe I can estimate from the figures you've given me, which will be accurate enough for my purposes.

Really appreciate your response on this.

Yours sincerely,

Carren Richardson

Thank you Carren, that's good news.

Based in this, would it be appropriate if I tell the national office that you consider your request fulfilled? And that they should close this, as it requires no further action on our part?
