Victoria Street Footpath Reinstatement
John Doe made this Official Information request to Wellington City Council
The request was successful.
From: John Doe
Dear Wellington City Council,
A footpath adjacent to 151 Victoria Street has been reinstated by the developer of the adjacent site (Willis Bond - Victoria Lane)
This has been reinstated at a significant (unsafe) crossfall. The previous footpath had a normal crossfall.
Please supply the approved drawings showing the footpath grade for the reinstatement works.
If the crossfall was approved by WCC, how was this justified from a pedestrian safety perspective?
If the crossfall was not approved by WCC - what is being done by WCC to correct these works
Regards,
John Doe

Thank you for your request regarding the Victoria Street Footpath
Reinstatement. Our Transport team have advised the following.
Wellington City Council are currently in discussions with the developer to
remedy this footpath crossfall. We have asked the contractor to
reconstruct the footpath to the standard crossfalls specified in the WCC
Code of Practice for Land Development on the WCC Website see: [1]Code of
Practice for Land Development - 2012 (wellington.govt.nz), where the
standard is between 2% and 3% to the street kerb.
The required extent of the works is shown on the attached photos.
A step will need to be created on the private property along the back of
the public footpath to achieve this change in the footpath. This will
require some sort of pedestrian barrier because the Building Code does not
allow single steps. A possible barrier system is included as an example
(shown in the detail drawing).
Please let us know if you require any further information.
Thank you.
