Kia ora T Barnett,
Thank you for your request for official information, dated 8 January 2024
for:
Te Whatu Ora Waikato Mental Health and Addictions service
Policies/procedures/protocols.
Your request as it stands would be declined pursuant to section 18(f) of
the Act, as to provide you with all the Te Whatu Ora Waikato Mental Health
and Addictions Service policies / procedures and protocols would take a
substantial amount of time and resource.
To assist with giving you what you are looking for, is it possible for you
to refine or narrow the scope of your request i.e. is there a specific
policy, procedure or protocol you are looking for?
Please note, under section 15 of the Official Information Act 1982, if an
agency seeks clarification or amendments to a request within seven working
days and the requester agrees, that request may be treated as a new
request and the time limit for the response restarts.
We look forward to receiving your response.

From: T Barnett
Dear hnzOIA,
Informed consent is integral to healthcare, I am asking for all of the policies and procedures, as patients have a right to understand how their treatment will be carried out. The same request was completed in the Bay of Plenty.
It has been 5 years since He Ara Oranga, was published, It highlighted the need to put people at the center. Furthermore, Ngā Paerewa (Health and Disability Services Standard (NZS 8134:2021)) reflected the shift towards more person- and whānau-centred health and disability services.
A refusal will require escalation to the office of the ombudsman.

Dear T Barnett
Thank you for your email following our request for clarification. Given
your reference to 'Informed consent', my understanding is that you are
seeking any policies / procedures directly relating to 'informed consent'
within Waikato Mental Health Inpatient Services'.
If this is correct, we are able to provide this information without
substantial collation and research and would be happy to respond.
Can you please confirm. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
