Policy on Diplomatic Protection Service observing crimes
Alex Harris made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was refused by New Zealand Police.
From: Alex Harris
Dear New Zealand Police,
Do the NZ Police have a policy on what members of the Diplomatic Protection Service should do if they observe a crime or apparent crime being committed while they are engaged in escort duties? If so, I'd like a copy.
I would prefer to receive an electronic response. Queries about
this request will be automatically forwarded to me by the
fyi.org.nz website.
With regards to s12 of the OIA, I am an NZ citizen and in NZ.
Yours faithfully,
Alex Harris

Asking for the policies - what DPS staff _should_ do - would help inform the public discussion, both of this case and any future ones.

Maybe a more open-ended question would get the information needed. When its paid they are Police officers and should uphold the law, I presume there is a policy document about their duties and responsibilities to the escorted person, over other crimes observed.
Things to do with this request
- Add an annotation (to help the requester or others)
- Download a zip file of all correspondence
