Dear Thomas

I refer to your Official Information Act request of 22 October 2018 for
police codes.

I have been asked to let you know that Police requires an extension of
time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A(1) of
the Official Information Act 1982, because the request necessitates
consultations such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

Police require until 18 December 2018 to provide a substantive response to
your request.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Official Information Act
1982, to ask the Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision to extend
the time limit for deciding upon your request.

Kind regards,

Renée

Dear FOXWELL, Holly,

Thank you for sending through this reply.

I've had a read through and have noticed a few omissions to the information:
- Missing 'K' codes, e.g. K2 and K8 which are still heard on North Comms channels.
- Missing incident codes e.g. 5F, and 6Y which are used (5F being used quite frequently for Family Harm incidents) that do not appear on the list.
- Missing two digit station codes e.g. 'HL' which is used but doe not appear on the list.

Yours sincerely,

Thomas Holmes

Hi Thomas

I am advised that although the codes supplied to you are the official Police codes, officers may use older codes that they are more used to in the course of their duties. As long as they can be understood this is not an issue for Police.

If you are unhappy with the response to your request, you have the right to seek a review by the Office of the Ombudsman. You can find details about how to do that here: http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/

Warm regards

Renee
