Entrance Scores to Health Professional Programmes 2024

Josiah made this Official Information request to University of Otago

The request was successful.

From: Josiah

Kia or University of Otago,

I am writing to make a formal request under the New Zealand Official Information Act 1982. I would like to obtain information regarding the minimum and mean GPA/Score of successful applicants to certain academic courses, within certain categories and subcategories, for the most recent academic year for which data is available. Please provide weighted GPA or score where applicable to the entrance category (e.g. Postgraduate Medicine weighted GPA, or HSFY Medicine score).
Specifically, I am requesting the minimum and mean GPA/Score for each of the following courses:
1. Medicine
2. Dentistry
3. Physiotherapy
4. Dental Technology
5. Medical Laboratory Science
6. Oral Health
7. Pharmacy
8. Radiation Therapy

For each course listed, I would like the data to be further categorised into the following groups:
1. Postgraduate
2. HSFY (Health Sciences First Year)
And within each category, the following subcategories:
1. Māori
2. NZRIPO (New Zealand Residents of Indigenous Pacific Origins)
3. Socioeconomic Equity
4. Refugee Background
5. New Zealand Rural Origins
Where applicable, I would also appreciate data reflecting Single Programme Preference applications.

A similar request was fulfilled for 2023 entrants a year ago (see https://fyi.org.nz/request/23430/respons...), but I would like to request the same data for the 2024 entrants.

Please let me know if you have any questions, or require further clarification of the request or its scope. Thank you for your attention to this matter, it is appreciated.

Many thanks,
Josiah.

If we have any questions or need to seek clarification on any points we will be in touch soon. Otherwise, we will seek to respond to your request as soon as practicable and no later than 20 working days after the date your request was received (by 14 August 2024). If we are unable to respond to your request by then, we will notify you of an extension of this timeframe.

I refer to your two requests for information made under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act). In your first request, you have requested
information in relation to grade distributions, average grades, and the
standard deviation for all papers offered by the University in 2023, and
in your second request, you have requested information in relation to
entry to the University’s Health Sciences Undergraduate Professional
Programmes in 2024.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your requests no
later than 20 working days after the date your requests were received.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible for us to meet that time limit. We
are therefore writing to notify you, pursuant to section 15A of the Act,
of an extension of the time to make our decision in respect of your
requests, by a further seven working days – to Friday 23 August.

This extension is necessary because your requests have necessitated a
search through a large quantity of information and meeting the original
time limit would unreasonably interfere with our operations. We are
currently working on our responses to your requests, but due to the large
amount of information requested across both of them, it is taking us some
time to pull it all together. We thank you for your patience – we will
endeavour to  provide the information sooner if possible.

If you are not satisfied with our extension of time on either of your
requests, you have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman under
section 28(3) of the Act. However, we would welcome the opportunity to
discuss any concerns with you first.

Ngâ mihi

Kelsey
