Prisoners Located In South East Asia

Rhys made this Official Information request to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The request was partially successful.

From: Rhys

Dear Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade,

Under OIA I'd like to request the following data - it may be helpful in an Excel format with each point as a column. I'm aware this may take some time so have requested specific countries. Rather than a summary, I'd prefer Individual 1/2/3/4 with points 1-4 answered for each.

1. New Zealand citizens registered with MFAT currently held in prison, detention or local Government pre-trial facilities in South East Asia including Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and Indonesia.

2. State their current prison or facility name they are located within.

3. For each, please state their charges faced and/or convictions if convicted already.

4. For those incarcerated, please state their date incarcerated, sentences handed down and expected release dates if known.

Yours faithfully,

Rhys

I am personally concerned about Tony De Malmanche the Indonesian prisoner, who was eligible for parole last year, but it still in Kerobokan prison. Now Australia are negotiating with Indonesia Government the return of the Bali 9 - and would like to think NZ would do the same for Tony and get him home. He was caught as a result of a romantic drug scam.
