Auditing of Complaint process within Immigration New Zealand
John Harpley made this Official Information request to Minister of Immigration
Response to this request is long overdue. By law Minister of Immigration should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: John Harpley
Dear Minister of Immigration,
Do Immigration New Zealand have an auditing department or an independent body for complaints. Or does Immigration New Zealand hand over complaints to the people/immigration officers, involved in the complaint, for them to independently compile the report on the said complaint to then have the report rubber stamped by a thrid party.
Yours faithfully,
John Harpley

Dear Mr Harpley,
On behalf of Hon Michael Woodhouse, Minister of Immigration, thank you for
your two Official Information Act requests received on 4 June 2015
regarding:
1. Do Immigration New Zealand have an auditing department or an
independent body for complaints. Or does Immigration New Zealand hand over
complaints to the people/immigration officers, involved in the complaint,
for them to independently compile the report on the said complaint to then
have the report rubber stamped by a thrid party.
2. Why are Immigration New Zealand Officers/Staff not subject to
random drug and alcohol testing, as are many other Government departments
and many other work places in New Zealand. CLARIFICATION of this on our
part is, These people are making decisions on the character of visa
applicants and therefore be should proven to be drug and alcohol free and
above reproach when doing so.
This email is to notify you that the Minister of Immigration is
transferring your requests to Immigration New Zealand, Ministry of
Business, Innovation and Employment for response. Further correspondence
on these requests will therefore come to you from the Ministry.
Yours sincerely,
Office of Hon Michael Woodhouse

From: John Harpley
Dear M Woodhouse,
Can you please tell me why Immigration New Zealand have seen fit to not reply to these OI requests that were sent to your office on the 4th of June and you in turn sent them on to INZ on the 8th of June. It is now the 30th of July and still no response with regards the requests.
We realise that we have possibly been a thorn in ones side with requests we have put forward over the past three months, however we feel so deeply about these issues as they have personally affected our family, that being set aside and ignored in the hope we will go away, just wont work.
It would be a pleasant surprise if someone within the system actually cared enough to answer requests when they were initiated - or at least acknowledge receipt of them and were proactive. But then I guess that would be like asking the sun to shine on a cold wet winters day.
Yours sincerely,
John Harpley
