HDC's Role and Mission

Rodney Parsons made this Official Information request to Health and Disability Commissioner

Currently waiting for a response from Health and Disability Commissioner, they must respond promptly and normally no later than (details and exceptions).

From: Rodney Parsons

Dear Health and Disability Commissioner,

The Health and Disability Commissioner's role has changed significantly with time and now has a role considerably different to when Ron Patterson started it. A key question remains whether it fulfilled its original mission and whether it continues to do so.

Provide reports on the HDC by any third-parties, as well as internal reviews, that have occurred over time. Provide reports on changes in strategy, change in FTE and funding over time. Report on the number and type of complaints to HDC over time, and explain how they've changed. Report on the number and type of complaints about HDC to other agencies over time, and how they've been addressed or changed.

Lastly, HDC appear to increasingly be asking providers to explain the health system to them, however this would seem to be the role of the HDC and its advisors. Explain whether this is an active strategy of HDC to push work onto providers, whether it's simply an effect of hiring people who don't particularly understand healthcare (i.e. lawyers rather than healthcare professionals), or any other explaination HDC has for this.

Yours faithfully,

Rodney Parsons
