Dear Nick Fagerlund,
Thanks for the response and just a follow up on this

Please do the same response for the dates I have requested
Yours sincerely,

Kia ora Chris,
Thank you for your further correspondence. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide "Daily estimated power usage for each radar, broken down by month and day since 2019". This is because no document exists that contains all this information, and it would require substantial collation to compile this information.
I do note that daily estimated power usage has previously been provided. However, this was only for a 6-month period. Your request is for a 70-month period. Collating this information would have a significant and unreasonable impact on MetService's ability to carry out its operations. As a result, we made the decision to decline this aspect of your request under s 18(e) and s 18(f) of the Official Information Act.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/ or freephone 0800 802 602. If you wish to discuss this decision with us, please feel free to contact our legal team. We may be able to provide further assistance should you be willing to change or refine your request.
Kind regards,
Nick Fagerlund

Dear Nick Fagerlund,
As a compromise and before I make a complaint to Ombudsman could you provide me the data for the radars for the following
- Just the major weather events in New Zealand since 2018 - maybe just the top ten which I’m sure Metservice have - Gabriel, recent Southland storms etc etc
- Power usage the month before the weather event and the month of the weather event
- Please make sure to provide readings for all radars
Just trying to get a gauge how the frequencies are being ramped up for all the weather manipulation going on. Maybe you guys are in the dark and it’s being done remotely by our US “allies” and you aren’t even aware which is why your forecasts aren’t very good?!
Yours sincerely,
Chris McCashin

Kia ora Chris,
I am writing to acknowledge receipt of your official information request
dated 5 December 2024.
We will endeavour to respond to your request as soon as possible and in
any event no later than 24 January 2024 , being 20 working days after the
day your request was received. If we are unable to respond to your request
by then, we will notify you of an extension of that timeframe.
MetService does not have a list of the ten most severe weather events
since 2018. However, MetService issues Red Severe Weather Warnings for the
most extreme events. MetService has a list of events where a Red Severe
Weather Warning was issued. However, as this system was only introduced in
2019, the list does not include events dating back to 2018. Further
information about the Severe Weather Warnings and Watches can be found
[1]here. We will progress with your request for power usage data based on
events where a Red Severe Weather Warning was issued. If this is not
suitable, please let us know.
Additionally, contrary to your request we will not be able to provide
radar power usage data for all sites. This is because the Southland Rain
Radar power meter is shared with the onsite contractor. Because of this,
we can not extrapolate out the power usage for this site.
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me. If any additional
factors come to light which are relevant to your request, please do not
hesitate to contact us so that these can be taken into account.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of
this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at
[2]www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
