Lawn care costs

Mark made this Official Information request to Auckland Council

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Mark to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Mark

Dear Auckland Council,

I wish to request some information under the local government official information act. The reason I wish to obtain this is I am becomingly increasing frustrated at the amount of ongoing care and maintenance that is taking place at public playing fields close to where I live. Excessive would be an understatement. For example, in the same week a field might be mowed twice, whilst at the same time have what seems like lawn seeds dropped to regrow the grass, which would only then be mowed up! As well as the mowing, someone will come along and start using a weed eater on an area where there is nothing that to weed eat! Your contractors have got to a point where they are mowing and weed eating for the sake of it, because nothing has grown since the last time they were on location, and if it has it can only be by at couple of mm’s at most! They are now coming along everyday of the week.

The noise coming from this ongoing care and maintenance is 1 thing but, I can only imagine the money which is once again being wasted by the Council and then being burdened onto the rate payers.

Please provide a line item breakdown for each day from the start of this current financial year to date which shows the following:

Type of work undertaken - I.e. weed eating, lawnmowing, seeding, trimming
Cost
Date of work

I would like to gain this information for both the Rugby playing field which is based on Cambridge Terrace, Devonport and also the Devonport Domain, which is also based on Cambridge Terrace.

Please also factor into this request any work that is undertaken on the berms that are located opposite the Rugby playing field which are outside the bowling club . Please can you also advise what the earliest time is that your contractors from Ventia are permitted to start, as there was a contractor who decided last week that it was okay to start at 5:45 a.m. in the morning with his weed eater. He subsequently used said weed eater to cut the berm and they leave the grass clippings splayed all over the road and footpath.

Yours faithfully,

Mark
