Clarification of where berms end and private property begins in front of unfenced properties where the footpath is directly adjacent to the road.

JANINE MCKENNA-WOODLEY made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport

The request was successful.

From: JANINE MCKENNA-WOODLEY

Dear Auckland Transport,
Please could you clarify where berms end and private property begins in front of unfenced properties where the footpath is directly adjacent to the road.
In areas of Orakei, the footpath is directly adjacent to the road, then there is a grass berm between the footpath and the front of the home owners' property. Surely the positioning of the letterbox marks this division in unfenced properties?
Please clarify for the grass verges in front of 109, 115 and 117 Rukutai Street, Orakei, as abandoned vehicles and junk are accumulating on said areas.

Yours faithfully,
Janine Mckenna-Woodley

I'm not sure why you are asking Auckland Transport and not the Council (who own the streets)?

But if you go to the Council's mapping website you can see for yourself:
https://geomapspublic.aucklandcouncil.go...

Enter the address and then change the Basemap to "Aerials" (top left buton on the toolbar).

Hi Janine,

My colleague has previously checked this matter and I can confirm that the
boundaries have been cross-checked with GIS and with Landonline for
spatial accuracy which confirm the GIS boundaries are correct.

The two vehicles shown in the photos are parked on the road berm.

The green paling fence at the rear of the station wagon extends into the
road corridor.

The brick wall at the front of 119 Rukutai Street encroaches over the
grass berm and into the road corridor.

There is a high voltage box on the berm at the front of 107-109 and 113 –
these utilities are normally inside the road corridor, not private
property.

Regards,

Raewyn Fortes
