From: Yasir Shaikh

Dear Ministry of Justice,

Pursuant to the Official Information Act 1982, I respectfully request the following information:

For the past 5 calendar years (or the most recent 5 years for which data is available), please provide the number of family violence (FV) cases that were:

1. Prosecuted by the New Zealand Police and forwarded to the courts, where the defendant was a male.

2. Of these cases, how many resulted in a court decision that the defendant was found not guilty or the charges were dismissed, meaning the court did not find sufficient grounds for conviction?

3. Over the same period, please provide the number of family violence cases where diversion was granted by Police, and if available, a breakdown by gender of the individuals who received diversion.

4. In addition to the above national-level data, I would also like a separate breakdown for cases originating from the North Shore Police area:

4a. The number of family violence cases forwarded by North Shore Police for prosecution.
4b. Of those, how many resulted in court findings of innocence or dismissal of charges.
4c. The number of diversion decisions granted by North Shore Police in family violence cases, with gender breakdown if available.

If any part of this request is likely to require substantial collation or research, I would be happy to refine or clarify the scope in order to make it more manageable. I would appreciate the data in a machine-readable format such as CSV or Excel, if possible.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
