Dear Mr Moore
Thank you for your request for information on 24 March 2017. Your request
is granted and for no cost. You have asked for the following information:
“I request any advice, reports, business case, correspondence or other
documents regarding the decision of the Mayor to support the Katherine
Mansfield Birthplace Society’s proposal to disinter and return Katherine
Mansfield’s remains to Wellington. I would be particularly interested in
any ethical advice sought or received”
For your understanding, the Mayor met with the Katherine Mansfield
Birthplace Society in late 2016 and was asked to support the society’s
initiative in writing to the Mayor of Avon.
He did discuss this with his advisors and WREDA at the time and received
positive feedback for the proposal. As Mayor and the Arts portfolio
leader, he agreed to provide a letter of support.
No reports are held on ethical advice sought on the request for support.
Once news of the Katherine Mansfield Birthplace Society’s proposal became
known, there was strong opposition from others to the initiative and as
such, it did not proceed.
Please see attached a copy of the information held in respect of your
request.
Kind regards
Deborah Howse
