Dear Misha
On behalf of the Commissioner, I acknowledge your request of 17 June. You
asked for the ‘total value in NZD that the police have seized in assets
and cash under the Misuse of drugs Act/Asset forfeiture’ and ‘how much of
this money was spent on funding for rehabilitation services/centres and
ensuring new support measures for drug addicts were readily available
across the entire country’.
Before we action your request, in order to satisfy eligibility under
section 12 of the Official Information Act 1982, Police requests that you
provide supporting information. This could be your New Zealand postal
address, a personal email address indicating a NZ domain, or any identity
documentation. I would be happy to receive further information by post or
email.
For your information, Police relies on the following guidance provided by
the Ombudsman:
With requests submitted by post the origin of the request will usually be
clear from the post mark, and the requester will normally provide a return
address, which should provide sufficient assurance that the requester is
in New Zealand, and therefore eligible.
If a request is made by email or over the internet, agencies are entitled
to ask reasonable questions to check whether the person is eligible to
make a request.
