Unaccounted for seized firearms
Malcolm Lock made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
Response to this request is long overdue. By law New Zealand Police should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Malcolm Lock
Dear New Zealand Police,
During the period 20th August 2016 and 20th August 2017, how many seized firearms that were in the custody of the New Zealand police were unaccounted for when they were due to be returned to the licenced firearm owner?
Example: If three firearms were seized from a licenced firearm owner but only two were returned to the owner, that would make one firearm unaccounted for.
Please list by policing district and the date of the discovery of the unaccounted firearm(s),
Please list make model and caliber of firearms that are unaccounted for.
Exclude firearms still being held by the New Zealand police.
Yours faithfully,
Malcolm Lock

Dear THOMSON, Raewyn,
You have replied to my request for information regarding "unaccounted for seized firearms"with a reply to a different request.
The reply attached to this request relates to stolen firearms.
Yours sincerely,
Malcolm Lock
From: Malcolm Lock
Dear THOMSON, Raewyn,
I note in the reply which you incorrectly posted as a reply to another OIA request, that the original requested information is not completely answered.
The New Zealand Police have answered how many firearms were reported stolen by policing district. however, the request also asked for the amount in each of the firearm categories (A.B.C & D) that were reported stolen in each policing district.
Can this information please be supplied
Yours sincerely,
Malcolm Lock

Dear RIORDAN-EDMONDS, Daniel,
You still haven't actually clarified what is meant by the wording "Automatic rifle"
You have just stated that "Automatic rifle is a category in NIA."
To clarify further, are you referring to semiautomatic firearms or fully automatic firearms?
Yours sincerely,
Malcolm Lock
