RE:Auckland Transport 2012/054218 - Kerbing Change
Lindsay Tupai made this Official Information request to Auckland Transport
The request was refused by Auckland Transport.
From: Lindsay Tupai
Dear Auckland Transport,
I am emailing about a request that was made during 2012 on behalf of my father about a kerbside change to his address at 51 Ferguson Road, Otara, Auckland 2023.
I have with me a physical letter dating back to the 24th December 2012 from Stephanie Burcher (Feedback Coordinator) who was dealing with this matter with the assistance of the Road Corridor Maintenance Department regarding the removal of the existing mountable kerb & building a vehicle crossing with a standard 50mm lip as with every other residential driveway entrance. Work on this was to commence on January 2013. Nothing happened.
Since then I have seen many streets around Auckland undergoing a kerbing upgrade where they have also rebuilt pavements along with driveway entrances which I am assuming were not requested. It has been 5 years now. My father is aging and he has been stuck with a kerbed driveway entrance ever since he purchased his property in the mid 70s. The house sits right on a bend where there have been numerous accidents to the property. But the major issue is when he or anyone else turning into the property has to be extra careful when doing so due to the obstructions concealing approaching vehicles from the opposite direction.
In order to avoid an accident the vehicle must turn in a swift manner. The kerb stops us from doing that otherwise it causes damage to the vehicle's suspension. This is a safety issue.
If kerbs & driveways are easily upgraded then I can't see why my father's shouldn't.
Always on time he's been a long paying ratepayer for many years.
So in conclusion I do not want to hear anymore excuses about this, I just want to get this completed (hopefully this decade please).
Kind regards
Lindsay Tupai

Dear Auckland Transport,
It is now the 21st of August, 2017 & I have not yet received an answer to my request
dating back to July the 18th, 2017.
Let me remind you that by law, you were required to respond promptly by August 15, 2017.
You failed to do this just as you failed to fulfill what you were supposed to set out to complete.
If I do not receive a response by the end of August 2017, I will take this matter further to those who may or will be interested in this request
Yours faithfully,

Dear Lindsay,
Thank you for contacting Auckland Transport regarding 51 Ferguson Road,
Otara.
We apologise for the delay in providing you with this feedback.
Please see the following response provided by our Maintenance Department.
Renewal of vehicle crossings and kerb and channel noted by the customer
are due to programmed renewal works in the area. The condition of their
vehicle crossing is good. If there is a sufficient amount of Grade 4 or 5
(poor and dangerous condition) footpath and kerb and channel, renewal
works would be programmed and vehicle crossings may be renewed in that
process.
Otherwise, all maintenance and upgrading of the vehicle crossing shall be
done at the property owner's cost and work should be approved by Auckland
Transport through a vehicle crossing application.
An exception to this, would be if the vehicle crossing was originally to
specification but maintenance/renewal work by Auckland Transport has
resulted in the incorrect vehicle crossing being put in place. However,
Google StreetView shows this crossing has been in this state since at
least 2008.
We thank you for taking the time to bring your enquiry to our attention
and if we can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to
[1]contact us.
Kind regards,
