Hamilton City Council
Dear B White,
Further to your information request of 20 December 2017 in respect of the
use of dowsing, I am now able to provide Hamilton City Council’s response.
Your questions are below in bold, with our response directly underneath.
1. If any Council or Council Controlled Organisations staff use dowsing
as part of their job.
Hamilton City Council does not use dowsing techniques in the provision of
our water service to Hamilton residents. We are aware that there have
been previous staff members who have claimed they were able to undertake
dowsing and on occasion unofficially tried that methodology in the attempt
to identify water sources and leaks if the more conventional methods
weren’t effective, however this competency was never a requirement of
their position or dowsing techniques were never formally requested to be
undertaken.
2. If any contractors employed by Council use dowsing as part of their
work when engaged by the Council
Contractors engaged by Hamilton City Council to assist with the provision
of our water service to Hamilton residents are not engaged to undertake
dowsing techniques as part of their work for the Council.
A search of our procurement database since 2013 has shown no references to
dowsing techniques offered or referenced by any contractors.
3. If any dowsing companies explicitly offering dowsing services have
been engaged by the Council.
Contractors engaged by Hamilton City Council to assist with the provision
of our water service to Hamilton residents are not engaged to undertake
dowsing techniques as part of their work for the Council.
We are unable to determine if any of the Contractors engaged by Council to
undertake other water services (either current or previous) also
explicitly offered dowsing techniques.
4. For any of the above, what costs were incurred by the Council.
Contractors engaged by Hamilton City Council to assist with the provision
of our water service to Hamilton residents are not engaged to undertake
dowsing techniques as part of their work for the Council.
Kind regards
Rebecca Watson
