Conflict of Interest Policy document
Alex Dye made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
Response to this request is long overdue. By law New Zealand Police should have responded by now (details and exceptions). The requester can complain to the Ombudsman.
From: Alex Dye
Dear New Zealand Police,
I am a criminal defence lawyer practicing in Wellington and have a current case involving a potential conflict of interest on the part of investigating police.
The situation is that a police officer is investigating my client in relation to an assault allegation in which my client is the alleged offender. That same officer is investigating a complaint made by my client to the Independent Police Conduct Authority. The complaint relates to the father of the complainant in the assault allegation who is a police officer.
Please provide any policy documents around how IPCA investigations are to be carried out, particularly in terms of any conflict of interest, and any general conflict of interest policy documents.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Alexander Dye
