Organized Crime Groups Operatingin NZ
Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
The request was refused by New Zealand Police.
From: Joshua Grainger
Dear New Zealand Police,
This is an Official Information Act request for OFCANZ, the agency focused on organised crime that is hosted within the New Zealand Police. It was noted in the 2010 Report 'Organized Crime in New Zealand', published on the OFCANZ website, that there currently exists '30 adult gangs in New Zealand.' I would like to request under the Official Information Act:
a) A list of each gang or transnational criminal group that currently operates in New Zealand
b) For each, the geographic area in which they operate
c) For each, the area of crime that they are thought to operate in. For example it is noted that the report that Vietnamese organized crime groups have a link to indoor cannabis growing.
I would ask that if any exemptions are to apply to my request, such as that they be considered on a case by case basis. It might be public record that a certain criminal group commits a certain type of crime or operates in a certain area, in which case disclosing this is unlikely to affect ongoing investigations.
Feel free to contact me if you wish me to clarify my request. I would prefer an electronic response delivered by email to this address.
For the purpose of s12 I am a New Zealand citizen resident in New Zealand.
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Grainger
New Zealand Police
This is to confirm receipt of your request.
Kind regards
