Sam
I am replying to your request for information on 2 matters - our Council's staffing positions and numbers and information pertaining to any proposals to amalgamate with neighbouring councils.
Regarding your request for staff positions and numbers, I have attached a table showing positions, numbers of people employed and the full time equivalent number. This table is divided into 2 parts - council staff, and the staffing of the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa. This is run as a department of Council but it is easier to understand the positions and numbers if separated.
Regarding any proposals to amalgamate with neighbouring councils, in 2008 there was a proposal initiated by Kaikoura District Council citizens to amalgamate with the Hurunui District Council. I refer you to the Local Government Commission's website link below, for their information on this.
www.lgc.govt.nz/lgcwebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/P...
I have attached our Council's response to that proposal - contained in the minutes of the meeting of 25 September 2008 and the associated officer's report on the matter. The matter was first brought to the attention of the Council at its 28 August 2008 meeting and I have attached that report also. The Local Government Commission decided on the matter and did not support the proposal.
