Resumption of EOI for Skilled Migrant Category
Vivek Regmi made this Official Information request to Kris Faafoi
The request was successful.
From: Vivek Regmi
Dear Kris Faafoi,
I am writing to ask what specifically is preventing the reopening of EOIs for the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) visa for onshore applicants, or if you have a date planned for the said reopening, given that:
- Onshore SMC applicants neither pose a health risk nor require quarantine at the border;
- The required permanent job offer above the salary threshold and the local labor market test demonstrate a genuine need for our skills in NZ, even in the midst of the current economic uncertainty. Many skilled professionals such as Doctors, Engineers, Nurses are leaving the country as the market is interpreting as NZ being closed to migrants. A dangerous game NZ is playing in a world competing for the same skills sets.
Yours faithfully,
Vivek
