Housing Providers
Colin L Campbell made this Official Information request to Ministry of Housing and Urban Development
The request was successful.
From: Colin L Campbell
Dear Ministry of Housing and Urban Development,
Does HUD have any responsibility for monitoring housing standards? Please detail them in broad terms (reference to online information is acceptable).
If HUD has no responsibilities for housing standards in any way then please indicate who in the government is responsible.
Are commercial businesses that supply accommodation managed/monitored by HUD, if so what for?
Is temporary accommodation covered, if so to what extent?
If a business has multiple tenants in caravans or "hut like" structures covered by HUD? If not which government entity is responsible for ensuring the accommodation is fit for purpose?
Does HUD use the Healthy Homes standards used, if not why not?
How are housing standards checked/verified/enforced by the Ministry?
Who checks this for the South Waikato District?
I do not need to know names of anybody, just position titles would be enough.
Yours faithfully,
Colin L Campbell

From: Colin L Campbell
Dear OIA Requests,
Is this the twilight zone or something?
Do I have to quote from legislation or something for you to understand?
WINZ had no trouble answering a similarly worded request.
Since this is obviously a very complicated issue for you to understand I will put it in brief:
Heating, Insulation, Ventilation, Moisture ingress and drainage, and Draught stopping.
I do not need any great depth of detail and would prefer you to address in common sense terms, thus minimizing your time and effort to reply.
The purpose of my request is to work out who/which government entity is responsible for ensuring that commercial rental operators that rent out camper-vans and similar non permanent structures to the public (on their land) are complying with relevant laws/regulations.
If you think this is better addressed to another government entity let me know and I will probably withdraw my request.
Sorry if my tone is a bit harsh, its not meant to be.
Yours sincerely,
Colin L Campbell

Dear Ministerial Services,
Please do not circle this back to HUD, they have referred it to your ministry.
This is turning into the twilight zone.
I will refer this to the ombudsman if this keeps up.
