Police use of vehicles with expired registration
Michael made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police
This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Michael to read a recent response and update the status.
From: Michael
Dear New Zealand Police,
On 22 July 2022 I was pulled over in Johnsonville, Wellington by a Police officer driving a Holden Commodore Evoke, licence plate JFE470. The registration (rego) label on this vehicle expired on 05 July 2022. The officer told me this was a "CIB Pool Vehicle".
I would like a response to the following questions under the Official Information Act 1982 please:
1. How many "pool vehicles" are operated by Police in the greater Wellington region?
2. As at 22 July 2022, how many of these had expired registration?
3. What systems or processes, if any, are in place for ensuring registration of Police vehicles are kept up-to-date? (brief description please)
4. Assuming a process is in place, what caused the process failure in this instance?
5. Is there a 'back-up' process, i.e. why did the officer not check registration before taking the car out on the road?
Yours faithfully,
Michael
