Incidental intelligence, nationality and other policies
Scott made this Official Information request to Government Communications Security Bureau
The request was successful.
From: Scott
Dear Government Communications Security Bureau,
I would like to request copies of the following GCSB policies.
ONE: Incidental Intelligence Policy (PS-216) if the current version is different to the one uploaded to the GCSB website here:
http://www.gcsb.govt.nz/assets/GCSB-Docu...
TWO: Personal Information Policy for Information Collected for Operational Purposes (PS-131) if the current version is different to the one uploaded to the GCSB website here:
https://www.gcsb.govt.nz/assets/GCSB-Doc...
THREE: Nationality Policy if the current version is different to the one uploaded to the GCSB website here:
https://www.gcsb.govt.nz/assets/GCSB-Doc...
FOUR: Joint GCSB and NZSIS Policy Framework (PS-100)
FIVE: The most recent IGIS work programme refers to a set of GCSB policies relating to collection against New Zealanders which were then under review:
“Collection against New Zealanders: This review will examine the Bureau’s systems and procedures for ensuring it complies with legal and warrant controls when collecting intelligence on New Zealand citizens and permanent residents. It was included in the 2021-22 work programme but paused while some relevant Bureau policy was under review and will proceed in 2022-23.”
I would like to request copies of the policies referred to here, if they are different to the ones I requested above.
Yours faithfully,
Scott

Tēnā koe,
The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day you submitted your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are, therefore, writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our decision, to Thursday 1 December 2022.
This extension is necessary because the consultations necessary to make a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or freephone 0800 802 602.
If you have any queries, please feel free to contact [GCSB request email].
Ngā mihi,
GCSB
