Dear Minister Bishop,

I note that in your release of 4 October 2024 announcing the Residential Development Underwrite (RDU), you note that the RDU will be funded in part from unused funds from the Build Build Ready Development Pathway programme (BRD) - which has been closed to new applications.

The BRD was announced with an initial appropriation of $350 million and was expected to enable 4,000 homes to be built, according to a 7 August 2020 press release from then Minister of Housing Megan Woods.

I request under the Official Information Act 1982 the following information:

1. How many new developments did the BRD underwrite?
2. How many homes, by development, did the BRD contract to be built by way of an underwrite?
3. Of those contracted homes in the BRD programme, how many have been completed?
4. When are the non-completed but underwritten homes in the BRD programme expected to be completed, by development?
4. Of the completed homes in the BRD programme how many did the Crown have to purchase as a result of the underwrite being used by the developer?
5. Of the homes purchased by the Crown, how many have been on-sold and did the Crown recover the cost incurred in buying the homes?
5. How much of the original appropriation for the BRD programme was unspent?

I await your response within 20 working days of the receipt of this
request. If any part of my request is unclear, or if the information is
held by another department or agency, I would appreciate your assistance
in directing this request to the appropriate party.

Yours faithfully,
Jack Jones
