Mangawhai Natural Disaster Response

Sami made this Official Information request to New Zealand Police

This request has an unknown status. We're waiting for Sami to read a recent response and update the status.

From: Sami

Dear New Zealand Police,

As per your FYI records, I am a New Zealand Citizen and resident in the North Island.

I would like to obtain an overall incident report for the Mangawhai/Northland Natural Disaster Response on 26/1/25.

I would also like to request the police units/callsigns (both Northland and Auckland Waitemata units) that responded to the overall incident (names and personal info of responders can however be redacted).

And what roles police played in the incident?

and

Any protocols and procedures in the event of natural disasters that New Zealand Police have to follow.

Yours faithfully,

Sam I

Tēnā koe

I have been asked to let you know that Police requires an extension of time in which to respond to your request, pursuant to section 15A of the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA), because the request necessitates consultations such that a proper response to the request cannot reasonably be made within the original time limit.

Police requires until 7 March 2025 to provide a substantive response to your request.

You have the right, under section 28(3) of the OIA, to make a complaint to an Ombudsman about this extension.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your request with us, including this decision, please feel free to contact [New Zealand Police request email]

Tçnâ koe Sami,

Thank you for your information request. Your reference number is
IR-01-25-3092.

The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our
decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we
received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that
time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of
the time to make our decision, to 07/03/2025.

This extension is necessary because consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are
not satisfied with Police’s response to your request. You can find more
information at
[1]http://www.ombudsman.parliament.nz/make-...

Kia ora Sam

Thank you for your request for information which was transferred to our
Council by the Police.  There was no overall incident report produced as
part of the Mangawhai Natural Disaster on 26 January 2025.  However I have
attached an email trail from our Chief Executive to our Elected Members
and Executive Team which outlines various actions.  Also attached is a
press release which provides some useful information.
