Wrongful Imprionment and Wrongful Release Information
Joshua Grainger made this Official Information request to Department of Corrections
The request was partially successful.
From: Joshua Grainger
Dear Department of Corrections,
In a response to an Official Information Act request by Alex Harris, viewable at http://fyi.org.nz/request/targets_for_pu..., it was noted that there had been one wrongful imprisonment and two wrongful releases at a Serco run prison. I would like to request under the Official Information Act some information related to this. I would like to request:
a) The total number of wrongful releases across all prisons during the same target period that Serco was assessed against
b) The total number of wrongful imprisonments across all pruisons during the same target period that Serco was assessed against
c) Any reports, correspondence, emails, papers, other documents or information that relate to the one wrongful imprisonment and/or two wrongful releases that occurred at a Serco prison or any following investigation
d) Any reports, correspondence, emails, papers, or other documents or information that relate to the last wrongful release and wrongful imprisonment that occurred at a Department of Corrections ran prison or any following investigation
I do not know the scope of documents that fall under requests C and D. In the event it is large enough that the Department will be requesting a charge or refusing under s18(f) I would like to instead request that the titles or subjects of the released information be disclosed, so that I can further refine my request to the pieces of information most relevant.
Feel free to contact me if you wish me to clarify my request.
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Grainger

Department of Corrections
Dear Mr Grainger
Thank you for your Official Information Act request of 7 May 2012
(C58512).
We seek an extension on the time limit for responding to your request
under section 15A(1)(b) of the Act, as the consultations necessary to make
a decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot
reasonably be made within the original time limit.
The extension is for an additional 15 working days. The response will
therefore be sent to you by 26 June 2012. Should it become available at an
earlier date, I will ensure it is sent to you.
You have the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigation the decision to
extend the timeframe for your request. Contact details are:

And, yet again, I misspelt "imprisonment" in the subject line of my request. *sigh*
I should really check these things more carefully.
