I refer to your official information request dated 14 August 2022 asking
for information relating to unused buildings and property owned by
Whanganui District Council.
The information you have requested is as follows.
* Total number of council owned dwellings, commercial buildings and
property owned and not being used, including multiple storied floors where
some floors are occupied and others aren't.
Council-owned Housing for Older Persons’
Whanganui District Council own 16 complexes throughout the Whanganui city
district for citizens who are 65+ years of age and have limited financial
means. Across the addresses listed below there is a total of 261 tenanted
units and 8 vacant units.

· 30 Tawa Street, Eugene Crotty complex
There is one Community Lounge which is utilised by tenants for e.g.,
knitting groups, cuppa and chat type events, tenants to book and use to
host whanau/family members for e.g., birthdays or Christmas and other
celebrations

· 71A Ikitara Road, Ivan Brown complex
· 1 Puriri Street, Jack Brotherston complex

Commercial Buildings
• Eight commercial buildings owned by Whanganui District
Council and all are tenanted.
• This figure does not include buildings owned by the Whanganui
District Council Holdings Ltd, nor does it include properties owned by the
Whanganui Port Limited Partnership, Joint Venture (Airport Building) or
Port Operations Buildings.
• One vacant commercial/manufacturing piece of land at
Balgownie.
• Four residential buildings that are tenanted – two in
Papaiti, one at Bason Reserve and one in Rimu.
