Dear New Zealand Police,

I am a New Zealand citizen, resident in New Zealand, seeking information under the Official Information Act on the difficulties and costs imposed on organisations by the expiry of standard Microsoft Windows XP support, including the migration of custom software to make such business specific software compatible with the later versions of the operating system.

Can you please provide answers to the following questions, and where you are unable to provide the requested information, please indicate why?

Please provide approximate values or estimates if accurate numbers are not available, and include the information that such values are only indicative.

1. Is NZ Police paying for support for any ongoing use of Windows XP within the organisation?
2. How many installations of Windows XP are involved?
3. How long is such support required for (an estimate or state that this has no known end date is OK)?
4. How much is this costing NZ Police?
5. Do any of the software applications used by NZ Police under Windows XP need any software development to run as required by NZ Police on a new operating system? (ie: they will not run as required without some modification).
6. If the answer to (5) is yes, how many such software applications are there?
7. If the answer to (5) is yes, what is the total cost of migrating such applications?
8. What is the overall cost of new operating system licences to replace Windows XP in the NZ Police?

an administrative error for which I sincerely apologise.  Your request has
