My apologies for the delay. In response to your request for further information I can advise the following:
Dignitary Protection Services (DPS) provide the Governor-General and Prime Minister continual protection. The teams also provide services for domestic and overseas VIP operations, as well as providing support towards the security needs of foreign diplomatic missions in New Zealand, in accordance with international convention. Members of Parliament, the Judiciary and leaders of opposition parties are provided protection on an as-needed basis.
Dignitary Protection Services is a full-time unit, headquartered in Wellington at Police National Headquarters, with both the National team and a Wellington team based at this location. A second team is domiciled in Auckland. The full time national teams are supported by staff from across our 12 Policing Districts as required. Dignitary Protection Services employs a variety of staff including Constabulary, Authorised Officers and Non-Constabulary Employees.
Kind regards
