POI Codes Attached To Identity
Oscar made this Official Information request to Department of Internal Affairs
The request was successful.
From: Oscar
Dear Department of Internal Affairs,
I request any documentation and information relating to the attachment of POI (person of interest) or other such codes that are applied to a people's legal identity for surveillance or other government reasons. Ie the system used to record that an individual supports an extremist group.
Please let me know if you need any clarification.
Yours faithfully,
Oscar

Department of Internal Affairs
Tçnâ koe Oscar,
Thank you for your Official Information Act request.
The Department is currently considering refusing your request for
information on the grounds that the information requested cannot be made
available without substantial collation or research, and we are wanting to
discuss the scope of your request before doing so.
Specifically we are wanting to understand what information you are seeking
when you refer to a ‘legal identity’. This is because the Department has a
number of functions and we need further information from you in order to
respond to your request in a helpful way.
We believe it would be useful to have discussion via phone or email to
establish this, so please contact us on
[1][email address] with the appropriate contact
details and we can arrange a time to do so.
If you could please let us know by 5pm Thursday 25^th November, it would
be much appreciated.
Ngâ mihi,
Louise Walton (she/her)

Dear SDO Official Correspondence,
Legal identity can refer to any individual as recorded in your system, ie myself as an identity or any other New Zealander/Foreigner in the system. Simply, a human being.
I'm asking for a breakdown of the of codes assigned to each person in your system, ie the list of codes (with their meanings) that are possible to be applied and how many are applied to each person. A spreadsheet would suffice.
An example may be, "there are 50 New Zealanders in our system with a designation/code recorded against them that considers them a threat to New Zealand security".
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Yours sincerely,
Oscar
