Dear Department of Internal Affairs,

I request any documentation and information relating to the attachment of POI (person of interest) or other such codes that are applied to a people's legal identity for surveillance or other government reasons. Ie the system used to record that an individual supports an extremist group.

The Department is currently considering refusing your request for
information on the grounds that the information requested cannot be made
available without substantial collation or research, and we are wanting to
discuss the scope of your request before doing so.

 

Specifically we are wanting to understand what information you are seeking
when you refer to a ‘legal identity’. This is because the Department has a
number of functions and we need further information from you in order to
respond to your request in a helpful way.
