Request for access to information held by Netsafe 

 

Thank you for your email of December 17, 2022 where you requested all
correspondence with Twitter, YouTube, and Google since 2018 where it
related to COVID-19 and misinformation.  

 

Netsafe will consider and respond to your request in accordance with the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act) and Netsafe’s Privacy and
Information Statement. The Act requires a decision on the request as soon
as reasonably practicable and in any case within 20 working days after
receiving the request, making February 3, 2022 the latest date for our
response to you, unless an extension is required. 

 

Netsafe has a charging policy for Official Information Act requests, in
line with [2]the standard charging regimes set by the Ministry of Justice.
Where Netsafe decides to release information, we may charge you $38 per
half hour of work that exceeds one hour. You would be required to pay any
invoice before information is released. If charges are likely, we will
inform you of:  

·                  our decision to release information   

·                  the total amount of the charges  

·                  the basis for proposed charges  

 

If you wish to narrow the scope of your request so as to reduce or avoid
any charges please let us know.

Thank you for your email of December 17, 2022 and your subsequent email to
us on January 11, 2023. We understand you have now narrowed your request
to the following information Netsafe holds: 

All correspondence with Twitter, YouTube, and Google about COVID-19 and
misinformation in general between December 2019 and December 2022 where
they relate to content and account removal.  

 

As per our email to you on December 22, 2022, Netsafe has a charging
policy for Official Information Act requests, in line with [2]the standard
charging regimes set by the Ministry of Justice. Where Netsafe decides to
release information, we may charge you $38 per half hour of work that
exceeds one hour. 

 

Netsafe has undertaken an initial search of the records we hold that
relate to your request. We estimate a likely charge of $380 incl GST which
includes time spent in excess of one hour to search for, retrieve, collate
and review this information. You would be required to pay any invoice
before information is released. 

 

If you wish to narrow the scope of your request any further please let us
know, otherwise we will proceed to review this information and make a
final decision on your request.

Request for access to information held by Netsafe

 

Thank you for your email of December 17, 2022 and your subsequent email to
us on January 11, 2023 in relation to your request for information under
the Official Information Act 1982.

 

The Official Information Act 1982 requires that we advise you of our
decision on your request no later than 20 working days after the day we
received your request. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that
time limit and we are therefore writing to notify you of an extension of
the time to make our decision to February 16, 2023. 

 

An extension is required as this request necessitates a search through a
large volume of information, and further consultations to make a decision
on the request are necessary. 

 

You have the right to make a complaint to the Ombudsman about the
extension under section 28(3) of the OIA

Request for access to information held by Netsafe 

 

Thank you for your email of December 17, 2022, and your subsequent email
to us on January 11, 2023, where you requested all correspondence with
Twitter, YouTube, and Google since 2018 where it related to COVID-19 and
misinformation.  

 

Netsafe has considered your request in accordance with the Official
Information Act 1982 and Netsafe’s Privacy and Information Statement.
Netsafe has decided to release information to you that is in scope of your
request.  

 

Some information is being withheld to protect the privacy of natural
persons under section 9(2)(a) of that Act. Some information is being
withheld on the grounds of section 6(c) as the making available of that
information would be likely to prejudice the maintenance of the law. In
addition, email addresses for Twitter, Google, and YouTube will be
withheld under section 9(2)(ba) of the OIA on the basis that they are
email addresses that have been provided to Netsafe in confidence and are
not publicly available. You have the right under [2]section 28(3) of the
OIA to seek an investigation and review of this decision.  

 

Netsafe has a charging policy for Official Information Act requests, in
line with [3]the standard charging regimes set by the Ministry of Justice.
The cost for this request is $380 incl GST which includes time spent in
excess of one hour to search for, retrieve, collate and review this
information.  

 

This information will be released to you once we have confirmed receipt of
